A. IDENTIFICATION & LOCATION

1. Name

1.1 Officially named "Nosker House" by Board of Trustees on April 6, 1962.

1.2 Alternate names noted:

Built under architect's project number 6453, which included also Archer House (261). Name on drawings is "Student Housing Buildings 8 & 9." Nosker House was Building 8 of this group.

All of the dormitories north of West Woodruff Avenue are frequently referred to as the "North Dorms."

3. General Description

3.1 Type of construction:

Reinforced concrete frame with brick exterior.

3.2 No. of stories:

Basement and four stories.

3.3 Increments of construction:

No additions--entire building constructed at one time.

3.4 Present area of building as shown in inventory records of Division of Campus Planning:

37,979 sq. ft. gross; 22,738 sq. ft. net assignable

B. PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION

1. On November 6, 1964 the Board of Trustees approved the plans and related documents prepared by W. E. Linch, University Architect, and authorized the solicitation of bids by contractors.

2. Bids were received on November 22, 1964 (T).

3. On January 14, 1965 the Board of Trustees awarded contracts to the following contractors:

General: Baker & Coombs of Ohio, Inc.

Electrical: Gustav Hirsch Organization, Inc.

Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning: Roland A. Esswein & Sons Co.

Plumbing: Limbach Co.

4. Completion and occupancy:

On July 11, 1966 the University Architect released the building to the Office of Campus Planning for assignment. (P)

On July 21, 1966 the Office of Campus Planning issued the initial assignments for use of the space. (P)

The building was occupied by students the Autumn Quarter of 1966. (H)

C. COST

Carried in Business Office reports at $897,561.76.

D. MISCELLANEOUS

From its opening this building has served as a men's dormitory. (H)
