B. PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION—ORIGINAL BUILDING

1. On July 5, 1922 the Board of Trustees approved the plans and related documents prepared by Joseph N. Bradford and authorized the solicitation of bids by contractors.

2. Bids were received on September 7, 1922 (McC4:6).

3. On September 8, 1922 the Board of Trustees awarded contracts to the following contractors:

General: E. H. Latham
Electrical: E. H. Cobb
Plumbing, heating and ventilating: Huffman-Wolfe Co.

4. Beginning of work:

 Excavation was started in mid-October, 1922. (L:1/9/23)

5. Completion and occupancy:

5.1 The Board of Trustees accepted the building from the general contractor on July 17, 1924 (T) . However, this action was based on a June 4, 1924 letter from the University Architect to the Secretary of the Board of Trustees (McC4;132), which would indicate that the building was completed by the beginning of June, 1924.

5.2 The building was first used in the Autumn Quarter of 1924 (R 24-25:11).

 C. PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION—ADDITION

1. On June 14, 1948 the Board of Trustees approved the plans and related documents prepared by Bellman, Gillett and Richards and authorized the solicitation of bids by contractors.

2. Bids were received on August 31, 1948 (T) .

3. On September 7, 1948 the Board of Trustees awarded contracts to the following contractors:

General: Haig M. Boyajohn
Electric wiring and fixtures: Electrical Contractors, Inc.
Heating: T. J. Connor, Inc.
Plumbing: Sauer Co.
Elevator: Otis Elevator Co.

4. Beginning of work:

Work began November 5, 1948 (R 48-49:31).

5. Completion and occupancy:

5.1 Completed in Spring of 1950 (R 49-50:23).

5.2 Scheduled to be ready for students in Autumn Quarter of 1950 (L:5/31/50).

6. Dedication:

Dedicated June 3, 1950 (L:5/31/50).

This building is now carried in Campus Planning records as James E. Hagerty Hall. The official name remains "Hagerty Hall."

Hagerty Hall Addendum No. 3

ADDENDUM NO. 3

With the move of the Fisher College of Business to new facilities, Hagerty Hall was gutted and renovated to accommodate the College of Humanities. 

The Board of Trustees approved capital budget recommendations for the renovation of Hagerty Hall in the amount of $18.5 million on July 11, 1997. Trustees authorized the university to seek construction bids February 5, 1999.

The architects were Wandel & Schnell Architects, Inc. in collaboration with Leers Weinzapfel Associates. Miles-McClellan Construction Co. was the general contractor. The renovation was completed in 2005, with a grand re-opening event on January 10, 2005.

Hagerty Hall Addendum No. 4

ADDENDUM No. 4 - PLANNING AND CONSTRUCTION - REHABILITATION

DESCRIPTION

1. This addendum expands upon Addendum No. 3

2. This project was to rehabilitate the entire building, including building system replacement and complete redesign of the interior spaces to house a portion of the College of Humanities

3. According to the Columbus Dispatch on March 6, 2004, the renovation was three months behind schedule due to previously unidentified hazardous materials.  This increased the price of the project by $1.5 million.

4. According to The Lantern on January 5, 2005, Hagerty Hall opened on January 3, 2005.  The renovation included a World Media Center, a cafe, new 250 seat auditorium, state of the art classrooms and labs, a video conferencing center and a renovated courtyard. 

The building now houses the College of Humanities and most of the universities language departments.

SIGNIFICANT DATES

1. The architect/engineer contract was awarded on March 6, 2000.

2. The schematic design approval was on May 1, 2001.

3. The design development document approval was approved on December 20, 2001.

4. Construction document approval was on August 2, 2002.

5. Bid opening occurred for different project requirements.

5.1 Bid opening (Demo/Asbestos Abatement) on August 8, 2002.

5.2 Bid opening (Main building package) on August 8, 2002.

6. Construction began at multiple stages.

6.1 Construction Began on October 21, 2002.

6.2 Construction (main building package) began on March 3, 2003.

7. Report of awards to the Board of Trustees on March 5, 2003.

8. The date of completion was on October 1, 2004.
