3. General Description
3.1 Type of construction:
This building was made up of seven war surplus buildings brought to the site and reassembled.
The long central section was two frame structures 20' wide and each 100' long, with a connect-
ing link about 16' long constructed on the site. The wings on the east side were 16' x 16'
quonset huts. The two longer wings on the west side were 16' x 48' quonsets, and the shorter
one, a 16' x 36' quonset. The wings were connected to the main building by short passageways
constructed on the site.

B. PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION
1. This building was re-erected and remodeled on the site by the Roth-Schenker Corporation in accordance
with plans and specifications prepared by Howard Dwight Smith, University Architect. The building
was under construction by April 1947 (M 38:5 April 1947). It was accepted by the university Architect
on August 16, 1947. (A)
2. The laboratory equipment was installed by the Browne-Morse Co. In accordance with the University
Architect's drawings and specifications.(A) Specifications called for completion of this project
by September 1, 1947 (A); no record of assessment of penalty for non-compliance has been found.
C. DEMOLITION
The demolition of this building was included in the general contract for Koffolt Hall (145), which was
awarded on November 8, 1957. Demolition of most of the building probably was accomplished shortly there-
after. However, photographs in Photoarchives show that the quonset on the east side at the north end was
still standing when Building 145 was fully enclosed. Presumably the contractor used this quonset, which
was a toilet, and demolished it when his work was completed late in 1959.
