A. IDENTIFICATION & LOCATION

1. Name

2. Location

2.1 Located at 1900 Kenny Road (formerly 980 Kinnear Road). See map below.

3. General Description

3.1 Type of construction:

Steel frame, concrete block and brick exterior.

3.2 No. of stories:

Two stories at north end; remainder one story.

3.3 Increments of construction:

Enlarged once since acquisition by Ohio State University. See sketch.

3.4 Present area of building as shown in inventory records of Division of Campus Planning:

31,561 square feet gross; 20,882 square feet net assignable

3.5 Volume of building:

400,399 cubic feet (PP)

B. HISTORY OF ORIGINAL BUILDINGS

1. The original part of the present building, plus two quonsets and a silo (see sketch), were on the property when acquired by the University. The south quonset was known as Quonset 12.

2. Title to the property passed to the Ohio State University Research Foundation by warranty deed executed May 3, 1961 by Bituminous Coal Research, Inc. (Deed Book 2320, p. 206).

3. Title was in turn transferred from the Research Foundation to the Board of Trustees of the University by warranty deed executed March 19, 1962 (Deed Book 2385, p. 188).

4. The main building was enlarged in the late 1960's (see next section) and the general contract for the addition included the demolition of the two quonsets and the silo (A).

C. PLANNING & CONSTRUCTION--ADDITION TO MAIN BUILDING

1. This building was enlarged under plans prepared by the University Architect bearing an October 1967 date (Project 6708).

2. Contractors for the addition were:

General: H Brooks Moss

Electrical: Pence Electric

Heating, ventilation & air conditioning: Munkle Heating

Plumbing: James A. Croson Plumbing & Heating

3. Completion and occupancy:

Inspection by the architect's representative on January 28, 1969 indicated 99.95% completion of all contracts (A).
