3.1 Type of construction:
Wood frame with gray brick exterior.
3.2 No. of stories:
Basement and two stories.

1. On November 12, 1956 the Board of Trustees approved the plans and related documents prepared by W. E. Linch and authorized the solicitation of bids by contractors. These documents included, in addition to Building 174, all of Buildings 128, 129, and 140, and extensive remodeling in Building 073.
2. Bids were received on January 29, 1957 (T).
3. On February 11, 1957 the Board of Trustees awarded contracts to the following contractors:
General: Harry E. Miller & Sons, Inc.
Electrical: Blum Electric Co.
Heating & ventilating: Conditioned Air, Inc.
Plumbing: D. F. Hood
Laboratory Equipment: Johnson Engineering & Equipment Co.
4. The plumbing contract was later readvertised and again was awarded to D. F. Hood on April 8, 1957.
5. Completion and occupancy:
Records in the University Architect's Office indicate that the plumbing, heating and ventilating, and electrical contracts were substantially completed on February 28, 1958. The final estimate on the equipment contract is dated May 28, 1958 and the final estimate on the general contract is dated July 28, 1958. It should be noted that these dates are for the entire project, and not for Building 174 alone.
1. On April 8, 1965 the Board of Trustees approved the plans and related documents prepared by W. E. Linch and authorized the solicitation of bids by contractors.
2. Bids were received on June 25, 1965 (T) and contracts were awarded on July 8, 1965. However, these contracts were not executed, possibly because all bids were over the estimate of cost.
3. New bids were received on August 3, 1965 (T).
4. On September 14, 1965 the Board of Trustees awarded contracts to the following contractors:
General: Pendleton Construction Co.
Electrical: Mid-City Electric Co.
Heating & ventilating: Perry's Heating Co., Inc.
Plumbing: Perry's Heating Co., Inc.
5. Completion and occupancy:
The report of the architect's inspection on March 1, 1966 stated that the project was 100% completed.
This facility was built by University employees in 1965. Campus Planning records indicate that the requisition was cleared May 13, 1965 and that the building was substantially completed as of October 9, 1965.
The Department of Psychology on August 5, 1969 requested the construction of a cage washing facility. This was approved by Campus Planning and then constructed by Physical Plant. It was completed and in use by June 9, 1970 (P).
No separate cost is available for this building.
